This Area may soon Disappear, if not for Your Help!

If this place looks familiar … Read on
A proposed HydroElectric development will drastically change High Falls on the Grassy River. The scenic beauty of these rapids and waterfall, only 23 km from downtown Timmins, will be lost forever as the river flow is forced into a large pipe to feed the turbine and generator. The falls, as we now know it, will cease to exist. The preliminary work has already started as an environmental screening process is now happening. Public input will be sought probably in early Spring 2008 or 2009 or 2010 or 2011 or 2012 - Who knows ?

If you want to do something about it or want more information please Email: GrassyRiver@gmail.com

Hi All,

If you want to support the cause to save High Falls it is very important to write to Hatch Energy, the company hired to do the Environmental Assessment, and express your opposition. All letters will become part of the Environmental Assessment record and will carry a lot of weight when the final decision is made.

Letters should be addressed to:

Hatch Energy
4342 Queen Street, P.O. Box 1001
Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
L2E 6W1
Attn: Kimberley Arnold, Senior Environmental Scientist

 Thanks for your support

Last Night's Save High Falls Meeting Feb 6th

Hi All,

I would like to thank everyone who braved the cold weather last night to attend the meeting .

Attendance for the meeting was over whelming and was beyond our wildest expectations.

With in excess of 200 people it was standing room only.

With the response we got last night I guess next time we will have to have the meeting at the McIntyre Arena :-)

I'd also like to thank all the people that got up and said a few words in support of the Save High Falls Cause.
MPP Gilles Bisson, Councillor J. Stephen Adams, Larry Robichaud & Rick Isaacson of Friend of Mattagami, JC Santos of WildExodus.com and many others(sorry if i forgot you)

Thanks Mayor Tom Laughren for attending

Also a big thanks to CTV News, Timmins Daily Press & Timmins Times for coverage of the event - WOW !! we made it to two front pages

One attendee asked about the list of 190 other potential hydro generation sites across Ontario
The List of potential Sites is near the end of the following PDF document

If you have any comments or suggestions about the cause please feel free to email grassyriver@gmail.com

Thanks & Stay tuned for further developments

IMPORTANT PUBLIC MEETING REGARDING HIGH FALLS

Public Meeting on High Falls

To All Residents of Timmins and Friends of High Falls

You are cordially invited to attend a public meeting to discuss the options facing High Falls on the Grassy River in light of a proposed hydroelectric development that would essentially change forever the natural rapids and waterfall that many residents of Timmins have come to value and enjoy.

Date: Wednesday, February 6, 2008

Location: Centennial Hall, (beside the Mountjoy Arena)

Time: 7:00 p.m.

The agenda will include a presentation with photos of the rapids and falls as well as its history and value to the residents of Timmins.

Those who attend will be invited to share their ideas about the future of this important natural resource that lies within the boundaries of the City of Timmins.  Ideas collected will be important for the Environmental Screening process that is now taking place.
